coco-nut1Virgin unrefined coconut oil has none of the problems associated with hydrogenated oils; in fact, unrefined coconut oil is now linked to a number of impressive health benefits.

Referred to as the tree of life in the Philippines, because they use literally every part of the plant, the coconut and specifically coconut oil, was recently vilified in the USA in 1994 when it was linked to theater popcorn and called an artery clogger. But the problem is the health threat is related to partially hydrogenated coconut oil, which researchers have in fact linked to health problems for a long time.

What the New York Times is just discovering now has been known all along to anyone who has studied the health of those who live in native tropical cultures, where coconut has been a primary dietary staple for thousands of years.

Back in the 1930s, Dr. Weston Price found South Pacific Islanders whose diets were high in coconut to be healthy and trim, despite high dietary fat, and heart disease was virtually non-existent. Similarly, in 1981, researchers studying two Polynesian communities for whom coconut was the primary caloric energy source found them to have excellent cardiovascular health and fitness. Where were all the clogged arteries and heart attacks from eating all of this “evil” saturated fat? Obviously, coconut oil was doing nothing to harm the heart health of these islanders. Isn’t it about time that America discovers the heart health benefits of coconut oil? Heart disease has been on the rise for the last 60 years in America, the same 60 years that coconut oil has been vilified!

Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Also cooking with coconut oils is far better than using polyunsaturated fats, which include common vegetable oils such as corn, soy, safflower, sunflower and canola. Why?
Cooking your food in omega-6 vegetable oils produces a variety of very toxic chemicals, as well as forming trans-fats. Frying destroys the antioxidants in oil, actually oxidizing the oil, which causes even worse problems for your body than trans-fats.
Most vegetable oils are GM (genetically modified), including more than 90 percent of soy, corn and canola oils.
Vegetable oils contribute to the overabundance of damaged omega-6 fats in your diet, throwing offyour omega-6 to omega-3 ratio. Nearly everyone in Western society consumes far too many omega-6 fats — about 100 times more than a century ago — and insufficient omega 3 fats, which contributes to numerous chronic degenerative diseases. There’s actually just one oil that is stable enough to withstand the heat of cooking, and that’s coconut oil.

Coconut water, is a better sports hydration drink than ANY of the commercially available sugary sports drinks, and is both sterile and an isotonic beverage, meaning it has the same electrolyte consistency of human blood, which enabled medics in the Pacific Theater in World War II to use it as an emergency substitute for blood plasma.

Doesn’t drinking a beverage with the same electrolyte balance as human blood sound like a good idea? It does to me. It’s also better to get your coconut water straight out of a young, green coconut and avoid the commercially available products on the market, which I consider to be a processed food.

Coconut oil also has an immune boosting fat called lauric acid and has been shown to be helpful in improving metabolic rates to facilitate weight loss. Personally I believe that unless you are allergic to coconuts you should find ways to regularly use it in your diet. I typically use one to two tablespoons a day in my morning breakfast breakfast shake, consisting of berries, kefir, fresh cilantro, kale, banana, chia seed, hemp hearts and or any combo of added fruits or greens that are in my fridge at the time.

Also, I now exclusively use virgin coconut oil as my skin moisturizer, applying it from top to bottom, that is hair/scalp all the way to feet, and, although a tad oily at first, if you rub it in good, the oiliness goes away quite quickly, and you get the added benefit of self massage 😉

Doris Woodring, 102, will compete both in Scrabble and dominoes as part of the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics.

At 102, Doris Woodring is fairly certain she is the oldest participant in the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics this year. But since “eldest Olympian” is not an event, she is busy practicing her Scrabble and domino skills.

“Scrabble keeps my mind alert,” she says. “And Mexican Train Dominoes is a new event this year, so I am going to give that a shot, too.”

Sponsored by the Northern Virginia Senior Olympic Committee and co-sponsored by the Fairfax County and other Northern Virginia Parks and Recreation departments, the Olympics program takes place annually in September and is open to all residents ages 50 and older who live in a sponsoring jurisdiction. Seniors are offered the opportunity to participate in 40 different events each year.

This year’s Olympics will be the NVSO’s 30th anniversary.

It also will mark Woodring’s first foray as a senior Olympian. But she says she is no greenhorn when it comes to either Scrabble or dominoes, the two events in which she will be competing.

“I have been playing dominoes for at least 90 years,” she says with a wry smile. “I think I’m able to hold my own.”

Although Woodring will potentially face challengers literally half her age in the Olympic Scrabble event Sept. 24, she says she plans to be competitive.

“I have been practicing my ‘Q’ and ‘K’ words,” she said. “I look in the dictionary to find words like quads, quiver, kennel and kangaroo. The way to win is to make points by adding onto other letters already on the board.”

Born June 9, 1910 in Glasgow, Kan., as one of eight children, Woodring says being competitive came naturally to her. She went to school in a one-room schoolhouse and said her father purchased one of the first automobiles in her town in 1919.

“As a child, I remember catching frogs for fun and putting little diapers on them,” she said with a laugh.

In 1935, at the age of 25, she married the son of a local butcher and moved to Washington, D.C., where she attended the inauguration of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

“I can’t tell you which one it was,” she says. “He had three, you know. But I remember he and his wife Eleanor passing right by me in their car on the way to whichever one it was.”

Woodring said she remembers air raid sirens going off in the District during World War II and having to pull down “blackout” curtains to keep indoor lights from being seen outside when the sirens went off.

The couple lived in D.C., Alexandria and Falls Church before having a home built in Annandale in 1967, where Woodring remained until 1995. She currently resides at Westminster Continuing Care Retirement Community at Lake Ridge in Occoquan. Her husband, Joe, died in 1990.

“He worked for [U.S. Representative] William Randolph Carpenter and later was an elevator operator in the [Robert C.] Weaver Federal Building,” she said.

Woodring, who has three daughters, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, said family always has been important to her.

“I have a daughter who lives in Delaware and I entered a Scrabble competition there with her,” she said. “It was great fun and together we beat a group from a local college.”

She said she is the oldest member of her family, the oldest surviving member of her high school class, the oldest member of the retirement community in which she lives, and the oldest resident there ever to maintain their own apartment.

“I guess I am just as old as dirt,” she said with a laugh. “I have been here so long that all my friends in Heaven must be thinking that I didn’t make it.”

Asked to what she attributes her health and longevity, she said she simply is blessed.

“Well, I also read every day. Nora Roberts is one of my favorite authors,” she admits.

“I also play games like dominoes and Scrabble,” she adds with a wink.

What a wonderful thing it could be when we’re living in ideal harmony with our spirit, thoughts and entire body. If you consider it, if we do, we wouldn’t be affected by fear, but rather we will feel wholesome, happy, confident, contented and much more importantly, we’ll be at peace with our creator. While this may not seem to become humanly possible, there have been individuals who have mastered the art of understanding sweet harmony in between their mind, entire body and spirit, which makes their lives much more meaningful and stress free.

Despite several attempts from countless individuals to attain this state of peace, no one has any concrete evidence of anyone reaching these heights of peace and tranquility in this existence, or the life to come. Actually, for a human being to have total control more than their spirit, thoughts, and body, they will require to attain ideal resonance with the spirit of God, because we are weak and unable to complete it on our own. Therefore we ought to try as best as feasible to channel our energies on getting our minds and bodies to harmonize with our spirit, to decrease daily stress and feelings of depression.

Nevertheless, when we undergo tension and we can’t concentrate on what we’re supposed to complete, the tension will improve and there is going to be a break down in our health, which further leads to fatigue and severe depression. It’s all a vicious cycle, so we should attempt to become more relaxed so that you can attain that ideal harmony in between our spirit, mind and entire body.

Live a wholesome existence – Try to maintain wholesome eating and exercising habits, as this will revitalize your body, soul and spirit.

When you have conquered your fears, then you will start to live a much more meaningful and stress free life, you will certainly sleep much better at nights. Moreover, when you’ve complete control more than your untrained and wild lifestyle, you’ll begin to experience the soothing sense of peace and well-being, as your mind, body and spirit will blend in ideal harmony.

 

Detoxamin/Wow Did I Finally Find It?

I don’t want to get too excited,  but it would appear,  that the wonder suppositories,  have arrived? That is,  Detoxamin,  the new heavy metal chelation therapy,  delivered,  via a suppository. Very Cool,  and seemingly the answer to a very complex problem, and kudos  to those that have figured this out,  especially,  if there are no side affects? As you may,  or may not know,  I have been detoxing,  from what I believe to be mercury toxicity,  as I have every symptom listed for it? I am now in the middle of massive detoxification,  and the removal,  of what were 15 mercury dental amalgam fillings,  now being replaced with composite fillings. I have so far had one quarter of my mouth done, the lower left,  so,  about 12 more fillings  to be removed.

I have been mostly doing the natural detoxification methods,  of supplementing with cilantro and chlorella, I use  cilantro, frozen cubes, fresh daily in my smoothie and as a spice on foods,  also tincture,  from the health food store. The chlorella is a very interesting food source,  and I have tried every kind available,  and tend to feel that the powdered form  is the most beneficial, I also tend to take more of everything then they suggest as I have always had a high tolerance to everything, but this is very personal,  and one must study and learn the affects of certain treatments for them. I do believe that this is a learned technique that anyone  can do.
